Lander Men's Basketball Adds Tolbert for 2011-12 Season
GREENWOOD - Lander head men's basketball coach Jeff Burkhamer
announced today the addition of 6-5 post/wing Dwight Tolbert to the
Bearcat squad for the 2011-12 season.
A member of the last Armstrong Atlantic State University team that
Burkhamer coached two years ago (2008-09), Tolbert led the Pirates
to a 23-7 record and an NCAA Tournament berth, while averaging 15.4
points and 4.9 rebounds per game. He shot 43 percent from the field
(including 42 percent from the three-point line) and 73 percent
from the free throw line.
A first-team All-Peach Belt selection, Tolbert, a senior from
Tifton, Ga., scored in double figures in 22 games and was a PBC
Player of the Week.
"Dwight Tolbert is a difference maker in the Peach Belt Conference
and will be one of the best players in the league," said Burkhamer.
"He has not played in two years, but will bring a tremendous hunger
to the gym and will work to get better every day. He will make
others around him work harder and will push them to get better.
"Dwight can do it all on the offensive end of the floor. He runs
the floor, scores in the post, shoots the three, and can put the
ball on the floor and get to the rim. He gives us great flexibility
since he can play on the perimeter against post players or post up
smaller wings."
