Wright to Join Lander Men's Basketball Team
GREENWOOD - Lander head men's basketball coach Jeff Burkhamer announced today that Corey Wright, a six-foot point guard from Broward (Fla.) Community College, will join the Bearcats for the 2011-12 season.
"Corey is a true point guard who will run our team and make plays," said Burkhamer. "He is extremely quick, can push the ball upcourt and can guard for 94 feet. Wright is very good at getting to the basket and finishing plays. He is also an excellent creator and passer. He makes everyone else on the court better with his vision and ability to get them the ball at the right time."
Last season at Broward, Wright averaged 15 points and 3.0 rebounds per game, while shooting 44 percent from the field (32 percent from the three-point line) and 72 percent from the foul line. He also dished off 5.2 assists per game.
He scored a career-high 31 points against national power Chipola College when he connected on 4-of-4 three pointers and 15-of-17 free throws.
An All-Southern Conference selection, Wright began his collegiate career at NCAA Division I Long Island University, where he played in 30 games as a freshman.
