Lander Men's Basketball Adds Pat Powell

GREENWOOD - Pat Powell has become the newest member of the Lander men's basketball team Bearcat head coach Jeff Burkhamer announced today.

Powell, a 6-0, 200-pound wing player from Columbus, Ga., played at Northwest-Shoals (Ala.) Community College during the 2009-10 season.

"Patrick Powell is a versatile player who can score," said Burkhamer. "We plan on utilizing Patrick as a scoring guard. He is very good at getting in the lane and finishing plays. He does an excellent job of drawing fouls and making free throws. He is also strong and athletic enough to be a shutdown defender."

At Northwest-Shoals, he averaged 20.4 points per game, while shooting 38 percent from the field and 77 percent from the free throw line. Powell, who led all Alabama junior colleges in scoring, netted double figures in 25 games, including a season-high 34 against Gadsden State.

A business administration major, Powell averaged 15.7 points and 3.7 rebounds per game as a senior at Shaw High School in Columbus.
