Oct 30, 2009 Peach Belt Reveals Mens Basketball Preseason All-Conference Team AUGUSTA, GA -- The Peach Belt Conference has announced the five
members of the men’s basketball preseason All-Conference team
as selected by the league’s head coaches. Augusta
State’s Ben Madgen and Fred Brathwaite were named to the team
as were Georgia Southwestern’s Chris Rawls, GCSU’s
Graham Martin and Freddy Little of the University of
Montevallo.
Ben Madgen returns for his senior season having been already named
a preseason All-American by the Sporting News and the Division II
Bulletin. A 6-4, 185-pound guard from Williamstown, Australia,
Madgen ranks as the fourth-leading scorer in ASU history and
fifth-leading scorer in Peach Belt Conference history with 1,670
points. He was named an All-American at the conclusion of his
junior season by both Basketball Times and Daktronics. The league
scoring champion at 19.1 ppg., Madgen also led the PBC in
three-point percentage (.462) and was second in free throw
percentage (.869).
Madgen’s teammate Fred Brathwaite also returns for his senior
season at forward for the Jaguars. A Peach Belt Conference
third-team all-conference selection as a junior, he ranked third on
the team and 13th in the Peach Belt Conference in scoring at 13.4
ppg and was second on the squad and 14th in the league in
rebounding (6.0 rpg.). In conference play, he averaged 13.7 ppg.,
shot 51.0 percent from the field and 77.3 percent from the
free-throw line.
Georgia Southwestern’s Chris Rawls returns for his senior
season after helping the Hurricanes reach their first PBC
Tournament last year. A forward from Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Rawls
averaged 13.8 points and 7.5 rebounds per game and led the team in
rebounding 19 times and scoring in nine games . He shot 57.7% from
the floor (116-201) and 78.6% from the line (125-159) while playing
a team-high 33.3 minutes per game.
Graham Martin was second on the team with 11.8 points per game for
the Bobcats. The senior guard from Marietta, Ga., started in 26
games for the nationally-ranked team while playing in all 29. He
scored 20 or more points three times and led the team in scoring
six times. He was also fifth in three-pointers made and averaged
3.4 rebounds per game.
Freddy Little brings impressive credentials to the Peach Belt
Conference as Montevallo begins their first year in the league
after moving from the Gulf South Conference. A senior guard, Little
was named First Team All-GSC a season ago. He was the Falcons
leading scorer last season averaging 15.7 ppg. He led the
conference in made three pointers with 75 averaging 2.5 threes per
game. He was fourth in the GSC in scoring and ninth in free throw
percentage. He had nine games with 20 or more points and had a
season-high 40 points at home against the University of West
Georgia.
