Aug 14, 2009 Flagler Rounds Out MBB Recruiting Class ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. − Flagler College head men’s
basketball coach Bo Clark rounded out his recruiting class when he
announced Tuesday afternoon the signing of Cody Shuffler to play
basketball and attend Flagler in the fall. Shuffler joins Edward
Fowler, Chad July and Jarrod Branco in this year’s recruiting
class.
"We are really excited about signing Cody and feel that he will be
able to contribute in the Peach Belt Conference right away," said
Clark. “We needed another 3-point shooter and with Cody we
will be able to stretch defenses."
Shuffler, a 6-foot-6, 225-pound forward was named the Northwestern
4-A Conference Co-Player of the Year after averaging 22.4 points
and 11.4 rebounds per game for East Burke High. He was a two-time
Northwestern 4-A All-Conference selection and was also a two-time
North Carolina Basketball Coaches All-District 10 honoree. Shuffler
was named to the NCPreps.com All-State Boys 4A Team last year and
he helped lead the Cavs to the 2008 conference title. Despite
missing his freshman year due to an injury, he scored over 1,000
career points and holds the program all-time scoring record.
Flagler posted a 12-15 overall record in its last season competing
as a NCAA Division II independent. The Saints lost four players to
graduation. Flagler will play its first season as a member of the
Peach Belt starting in November.
