GCSU Men's Basketball Adds Three for 2008-09

GCSU recently announced the signings of Michael Ross, Nate Hamilton and Jordan Stephens for the 2008-09 season.

Ross spent his prep career at Union Counyy High School in Blairsville, Ga. where he played for head coach Tim Hunter.

“Michael is a great fit here at Georgia College,” said Sellers. “At 6-foot-4, he gives us size on the perimeter. He is a good shooter who has a strong understanding of how to play. Michael has the potential to develop into an outstanding player in the Peach Belt Conference.”

A lengthy wing, Ross averaged 18.7 points, 8.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists per contest. He shot over 40 percent from three-point range over his junior and senior seasons and had a season-high 49 points against Banks County, breaking the school record. He was twice named to the 8AA All-Region Team and was the Sub-Region MVP. Ross was selected to play in the North/South Georgia All-State game in Savannah.

Hamilton comes to Milledgeville via Brookwood High School in Snellville, Ga. where he played for head coach Craig Witmer.

“We are excited that Nate decided to join us here at GCSU,” said Sellers. “Nate can really shoot the basketball from beyond the arc. He possesses a great work ethic and has a true passion for basketball.”

A 6-foot-1 shooting guard, Hamilton averaged 19.5 points and 5.6 rebounds per contest. He was named First Team All-Region (8-AAAAA) as well as Second Team All-County by the Gwinnett Daily Post. He tied a school record for three pointers made in a single game (8). Nate also finished thrid all time at Brookwood in free throw percentage (.849).

Stephens comes to Milledgeville via Montgomery County High School in Mount Sterling, Ky. where he played under head coach Keith Griesser.

“Jordan is a great fit for our team and University,” said Sellers. “He has an opportunity to be a good post player in the Peach Belt Conference (PBC). Jordan can score with his back to the basket and face up his defender and shoot the jump shot.”

A 6-foot-8 post player, Stephens averaged 12.8 points, 9.1 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks per contest. He was named First Team All-10th Region and Honorable Mention All-State, in addition to his nomination on the Blue Chip All-Star Team. Jordan was selected to play in the East-West All Star Game sponsored by the Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches. He ended his high school career as the third all-time leading rebounder at Montgomery County High School, and in his senior year, Montgomery County finished 24-8.
