GCSU recently announced the signings of Michael Ross, Nate
Hamilton and Jordan Stephens for the 2008-09 season.
Ross spent his prep career at Union Counyy High School in
Blairsville, Ga. where he played for head coach Tim Hunter.
“Michael is a great fit here at Georgia College,”
said Sellers. “At 6-foot-4, he gives us size on the
perimeter. He is a good shooter who has a strong understanding of
how to play. Michael has the potential to develop into an
outstanding player in the Peach Belt Conference.”
A lengthy wing, Ross averaged 18.7 points, 8.3 rebounds, 2.1
assists per contest. He shot over 40 percent from three-point range
over his junior and senior seasons and had a season-high 49 points
against Banks County, breaking the school record. He was twice
named to the 8AA All-Region Team and was the Sub-Region MVP. Ross
was selected to play in the North/South Georgia All-State game in
Savannah.
Hamilton comes to Milledgeville via Brookwood High School in
Snellville, Ga. where he played for head coach Craig Witmer.
“We are excited that Nate decided to join us here at
GCSU,” said Sellers. “Nate can really shoot the
basketball from beyond the arc. He possesses a great work ethic and
has a true passion for basketball.”
A 6-foot-1 shooting guard, Hamilton averaged 19.5 points and 5.6
rebounds per contest. He was named First Team All-Region (8-AAAAA)
as well as Second Team All-County by the Gwinnett Daily Post. He
tied a school record for three pointers made in a single game (8).
Nate also finished thrid all time at Brookwood in free throw
percentage (.849).
Stephens comes to Milledgeville via Montgomery County High
School in Mount Sterling, Ky. where he played under head coach
Keith Griesser.
“Jordan is a great fit for our team and University,”
said Sellers. “He has an opportunity to be a good post player
in the Peach Belt Conference (PBC). Jordan can score with his back
to the basket and face up his defender and shoot the jump
shot.”
A 6-foot-8 post player, Stephens averaged 12.8 points, 9.1
rebounds, and 1.7 blocks per contest. He was named First Team
All-10th Region and Honorable Mention All-State, in addition to his
nomination on the Blue Chip All-Star Team. Jordan was selected to
play in the East-West All Star Game sponsored by the Kentucky
Association of Basketball Coaches. He ended his high school career
as the third all-time leading rebounder at Montgomery County High
School, and in his senior year, Montgomery County finished 24-8.
