Aug 16, 2007 ASU's Killeen to Represent Country
AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Augusta State junior center
Jason Killeen was recently named to the Irish Men’s
Basketball National Team.
Killeen will be suiting up for the Irish National Team in the
European Championships, a lead-up tournament to the 2008 Summer
Olympic Games in Beijing, China.
A 6-10, 240-pound native of Limerick, Ireland, Killeen is one of
four newcomers to the Jaguar men’s basketball program in
2007-08. He spent the first three years of his collegiate career at
Winthrop and averaged 2.1 points and 1.9 rebounds last season for a
squad that won 29 games and advanced to the second round of the
NCAA Tournament.
“It is a tremendous honor to represent your country and we
are ecstatic that Jason will be part of the Irish National
Team,” ASU head coach Dip Metress said. “He’ll
gain some invaluable experience and go up against some really
talented players as he prepares for the 2007-08 season.”
ASU is coming off the second-winningest season in the history of
the men’s basketball program. The Jags posted a 24-7 record
and climbed as high as No. 8 in the nation en route to winning the
Peach Belt Conference regular season championship and earning the
top seed in the NCAA South Atlantic Regional.
