AUGUSTA, GA – The Peach Belt Conference revealed the 2013 baseball preseason All-Conference team from the league office in Augusta. Eleven players were named to the team representing eight league schools. Defending regular-season and tournament champions Armstrong Atlantic State University led with three players while the University of Montevallo was the only other school with multiple honorees at two. The team was selected by the league’s head coaches.
The preseason All-Conference first baseman is Armstrong’s Chris Zittrouer. A returning senior from Guyton, Ga., he played in 30 games with 29 starts hitting .309 with a pair of home runs and 14 RBIs. He had a 23-game hit streak during the year and hit safely in 26 of his 30 games played. A two-time member of the PBC Presidential Honor Roll, Zittrouer had a .986 fielding percentage at first base.
At second base is Montevallo’s Will Fulmer. A returning junior from Palm Harbor, Fla., he set a league record with 52 hits in conference games last season and was named first-team All-Conference at second base. He led the team and was ranked seventh in the PBC with a .361 batting average, adding one home run and 28 RBIs. He was also ranked in the PBC’s top 10 in on-base percentage and was named All-Region by three different organizations.
The preseason third baseman is Georgia College’s Jeremy Donaldson. A senior from Winder, Ga., he spent 2012 at second base for the Bobcats but will make the move to third in 2013. Donaldson was ranked in the PBC top 10 in home runs and slugging percentage while hitting .310 in 38 games. He had 34 RBIs in 126 at-bats and made only three errors at second base.
Austin Dubberly is the preseason selection at shortstop. A senior from Helena, Ala., he started in all 53 games for the Falcons last season, hitting .280 with a home run and 28 RBIs. He led UM with eight stolen bases in nine attempts and had 10 extra-base hits on the season. Dubberly is a three-time PBC Presidential Honor Roll honoree and was named to the All-Academic team.
Senior catcher Josh Miller from USC Aiken finished the 2012 season playing in 52 games, 50 of which he started. He was second on the team batting .376 , led his team with 57 RBIs, and posted a .441 OBP. In 2012 Miller was named PBC All-Tournament, PBC first team All- Conference, and second team All-Southeast Region selection.
Brett Moreland of Flagler was a first-team All- Conference selection in 2012 and was also honored as a PBC Player of the Week. Moreland, a senior outfielder from Charles Town, West Virginia, led his club with 80 hits in just 49 games last season to finish with a .385 average. He totaled 25 multi-hit games, 10 multi-RBI games, and committed just 2 errors for a .970 fielding percentage.
Columbus State's Ryan Lewis led his team in almost every offensive category in the 2011 season. He also stole 16 bases in as few as 20 attempts landing him in the top ten for stolen bases in the conference. Lewis put up a .360 average with 8 home runs while earning Player of the Week honors and All-PBC First team honors as an outfielder in 2011. Lewis did not play in 2012, receiving a medical redshirt.
Also in the outfield is Lander's Patrick Grady, a junior from Pompano Beach, Fla. A 2012 first-team All-Conference selection, he led the league with a .524 on-base percentage last season. Grady hit .330 with 37 RBIs and six home runs to help lead his team to a 38-20 record last year and the team’s first-ever appearance in the PBC Tournament Championship game and the NCAA regionals.
Armstrong’s Ethan Bader had a breakout season on the mound in 2012. A returning junior from Jacksonville, Fla., he was named first-team All-Conference and All-Tournament in the league and All-Region by the ABCA and Daktronics. Bader led the PBC and was ranked third in the NCAA with 12 wins, tying a single-season school record, and was also third in the nation in strikeouts with 119.
Francis Marion’s Jeffrey Stoner was second in the PBC with nine saves a year ago and fifth in the league with 88 strikeouts. A returning junior from Martinez, Ga., he made 22 appearances, 14 in relief, with six wins and a 3.67 ERA. Stoner converted eight straight save opportunities during the year, allowing only two earned runs during that time.
Designated Hitter R.J. Dennard helped lead Armstrong to the 2012 Conference Tournament Championship in his freshman season. Dennard played in 51 games and totaled 63 hits in just 179 at bats for a .352 average, second best on his squad. He drove in 43 runs, hit 12 doubles, and scored 42 times last year. A sophomore from Soperton, Ga., he was named second-team All-Conference and All-Region by the ABCA.
