Lander's Owens and Thomas; USCA's Tankersley Earn Final Weekly Awards

Player of the Week

Jordan Owens, Lander
Sr. • INF • Inman, S.C.

Owens led the potent Bearcat offense in a three-game sweep at North Georgia by hitting .538 with a 1.385 slugging percentage.  The senior homered twice in the first game a had a third in game two.  He finished the week with two doubles, six RBIs and nine runs scored.  He was walked four times and struck out only once.  He hit a solo homer in the third of the opener, followed by a three-run shot in the fourth.  He had another solo home run in game two, driving in another with a double.  He is now third in the PBC in home runs with nine and fourth with 53 RBIs, just three shy of setting the school's single-season record.

Pitcher of the Week

Chris Thomas, Lander
Jr. • RHP • Chester, S.C.

Thomas becomes the first player to repeat as Pitcher of the Week after tossing a complete-game two-hit shutout against North Georgia in the second game of a three-game sweep.  The junior walked two and struck out 10 to improve to 7-2 on the year.   He set down the first 12 batters he saw in order, not allowing a baserunner until a leadoff single in the fifth.  He allowed another single in the seventh and walks in the eighth and ninth, but no Saint baserunner reached second.  His second shutout leads the PBC while he moved to third in ERA and strikeouts and fourth in complete games.

Freshman of the Week

Will Tankersley, USC Aiken
Fr. • OF • Thomson, Ga.

Tankersley led the Pacers to a two-game sweep of #14 Catawba by hitting .571 with a staggering 1.429 slugging percentage.  The freshman had four hits in the two games, two of them home runs.  He smacked a two-run homer in the opener, driving in three all told, and had another two-run shot in game two.  He finished the series with five RBIs and five runs scored, a walk and only one strikeout.  His efforts have moved him into second in the PBC with a .388 slugging percentage, he is also tied for third in home runs and second in slugging percentage.
