Peterson, Isom and Dennard Named Baseball Weekly Award Winners
Player of the Week
Heath Peterson, Montevallo
Sr. • 1b • Phenix City, Ala.
In four games last week, Peterson hit five home runs, including three grand slams, and had 18 RBIs. The senior launched his first grannie with his team down three in the top of the ninth in an 11-10 win over West Alabama. In a three-game set at Armstrong, he hit .500 with two home runs in both the first and second games, driving in 14, including another grand slam in the opener. He also doubled in the second game and, for the week, six of his eight hits were for extra bases giving him a 1.412 slugging percentage. Peterson now leads the league in home runs, is second in RBIs and fourth in slugging percentage.
Pitcher of the Week
Brad Isom, UNC Pembroke
Sr. • RHP • Liberty, N.C.
Isom tossed the second complete game of his career, shutting out Augusta State in a 3-0 win. The senior allowed seven hits and walk while striking out a season-high 11. He only allowed two hits in an inning twice and set down the side in order three times. He also set down the final eight batters he faced in a row to end the game, the only baserunner aboard after being hit by a pitch. With his effort he cracked the PBC's top 10 in ERA and moved to second in wins and fourth in strikeouts. He is also now one of only two PBC pitchers with two or more complete games this season.
Freshman of the Week
R.J. Dennard, Armstrong
Fr. • 1b/DH • Soperton, Ga.
Dennard had four multi-hit games for the Pirates, including all three league games against Montevallo with eight runs scored and 10 RBIs. He went 3-for-4 against Tiffin wit three runs scored, then collected two hits in all three games with the Falcons. In the series finale, he doubled and homered to drive in six. He finished with a .682 slugging percentage and drew four walks while striking out only twice in 22 at-bats. Dennard is currently third in the PBC in batting average, fourth in on-base percentage and fifth in RBIs.
