Baseball Daily Update - March 13

The standings in both divisions underwent major changes on Saturday as all five PBC series in action featured doubleheader sweeps.

Columbus State opened conference play by extending their school-record winning streak to 18 games with a 8-4, 12-9 sweep at Montevallo.  Thomas Campbell took control on the mound in the opener, pitching eight innings and allowing one run on five hits while striking out seven. Mitch Rider sparked the offense with a three-run home run.  In game two, Jason Rogers continued his offensive assault with home runs 12 and 13 on the season as he went 4-for-5 with four RBIs.

USC Aiken moved to the top of the east division with their 12-8, 3-2 sweep of Lander.  Jowan Gray went 3-for-5 with a home run, three runs scored and three RBIs in the opener.  Game two was much more a defensive and pitching contest as USCA's Thomas McLeod went eight innings on the mound with five hits allowed and four strikeouts.

UNC Pembroke took their show on the road and extended their winning streak to six with a 7-5, 12-4 sweep at Flagler. Josh Haley went 6-for-9 and Jason Coker collected five hits, including three doubles and a home run.

North Georgia handed Georgia Southwestern their first two conference losses 3-1 and 9-6 in Dahlonega.  Chris Rearick pitched 6.1 innings in the opener for the Saints, allowing five hits and one run while striking out 10.  Andre Airich hit a three-run home run and had four RBIs in game two.

GCSU sent balls flying out of the yard in their 22-3, 8-6 sweep of Augusta State.  The Bobcats hit four home runs in the opening game, including a grand slam from Sean Harrell.  Harrell finished the day 4-for-5 with two runs and seven RBIs, one shy of the PBC record for conference games.  The Bobcats then tied a PBC record with four triples as a team in game two.  Richard Pirkle had one of the three-baggers to go with a pair of doubles, three runs scored and three RBIs.
