May 3, 2008 PBC Releases Baseball Tournament Bracket AUGUSTA, GA – The Peach Belt Conference released the final
bracket for the 2008 baseball tournament on Saturday following the
conclusion of the regular season. Columbus State will be the #1
seed for the tournament which begins on Thursday, May 8, at 10:00
am at Roberto Hernandez Stadium on the campus of USC Aiken. The
host Pacers will be the #2 seed.
Armstrong Atlantic State became the final team to earn a berth in
the six-team field with a doubleheader split against Lander in the
final games of the regular season on Saturday. The Pirates won the
first game of the twin bill 2-1 after beating Lander 10-2 on Friday
night, eliminating UNC Pembroke from tournament participation. AASU
will take on Columbus State in the first game of the tournament on
Thursday at 10:00 am.
USC Aiken will be playing at home where they were 31-10 this
season. The second-seeded Pacers will take on the #5-seeded GCSU
Bobcats on Thursday at 2:00.
Francis Marion is the third seed and North Georgia the #4 seed.
The two teams will not play at Hernandez Stadium, but instead begin
their tournament at nearby Lake Olmstead Stadium in Augusta, Ga.,
home of the Augusta Greenjackets. The two will play at 11:00 am on
Thursday. The reason for the change is USCA is holding graduation
ceremonies on Thursday night and school and conference officials
did not want a conflict of events on campus.
Tournament play will continue on Friday and conclude with the
championship games on Sunday. Only the first NGCSU/FMU game will be
played at Lake Olmstead Stadium, all the rest will be at Hernandez
Stadium.
