Patriot Baseball Team Adds Another Arm

FLORENCE, S.C. -- Francis Marion University baseball coach Art Inabinet has announced that right-handed pitcher David Walters of Marriottsville, Md., will join the Patriot baseball squad this fall after transferring from Spartanburg Methodist College.

Walters, 6-2 190-pounds, becomes the third Spartanburg Methodist product to join the FMU squad this summer. He will have two years of eligibility remaining.

This past season, Walters was 5-5 with a 3.62 earned run average and 71 strikeouts in 82 innings. He walked only 18 as the Pioneers went 54-14 and placed third at the 2007 NJCAA World Series.

As a freshman, he earned first-team All-Region X honors following a season that saw him record a 10-3 mark with a 3.61 ERA.

Walters was a two-time All-County pick at River Hill High School.

“David has a great arm and is a fierce competitor who always wants the ball,” said Inabinet. “He throws in the upper 80s with a fast ball that has some sink to it. He also throws a slider and a change-up. I look for him to log a lot of innings for us in 2008.”

Francis Marion finished the 2007 campaign with a 36-18 mark, the second-most wins in school history. The Patriots lost five seniors from that squad.

Walters becomes the 16th newcomers slated to join the 2008 FMU roster.
