Head Coach: Steve Mrowka and Chris
Calciano

Current Location: Monroe, GA
What are you doing now?
I am currently the Assistant Pastor and Youth Minister at Monroe
First United Methodist Church. I am also getting my Masters of
Divinity at Asbury Thelogical Seminary. I married my wife (Ashley
Williams Sorrells, Georgia College basketball player '04-'08) in
December of 2009 and we recently had our first child. After college
I worked at the Youth Minister at Milledgeville First United
Methodist Church as well as Acworth United Methodist Church.
What was your most memorable moment from your athletic
experience?
One of my most memorable moments at Georgia College was when I
pitched a complete game shut out against North Georgia in 2006. I
was also named Peach Belt Pitcher of the Week that week as well.
That year we were also ranked #1 in the nation and won the
conference championship.
How has your athletics experience influenced your life
since leaving college?
The four years I played baseball at Georgia College were some of
the best years of my life. I learned how to be a winner on and off
the field. I learned that hard work and determination can take you
only so far. Your priorities have to be in order and having God as
the center of your life helps keep you moving in the right
direction. I have made lifelong friends and have made memories that
will last a life time.
If you could have played any other sport than the one you
did, what would it have been and why?
I would probably have played golf. I grew up playing with my dad
and cousin and truly enjoyed the time I spent doing so. I wish that
in high school baseball wasn't in the same season or I would have
tried to play it as well. Since baseball I have picked back up golf
and enjoy working on my game.
What do you remember most about your coach?
Coach Mrowka new the game of baseball better than anyone that I
have ever known. He could predict what was going to happen in a
game well before the play occurred. He also helped me get in to
Georgia College and I will always remember him for that. Coach
Calciano gave me a chance to play several positions at Georgia
College. It wasn't uncommon for me to play third, first, pitch and
DH all in the same weekend series. He had faith in me and let me go
out and play everyday with confidence knowing that he was behind
me. We had trust in each other and I knew that I was going to
always play my hardest for him and our team.
What words of wisdom would you give to current Peach Belt
student-athletes?
Enjoy every minute while you are on the field or court. The years
that you spend in college will fly by and you will spend the rest
of your life remembering those times. Have fun, try hard, swing for
the fences and love God. Everything else will take care of
itself.
