GCSU Golf’s Wilson Named Interim Director of Athletics

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – An 11-year member of the staff and former student-athlete at Georgia College & State University, Jimmy Wilson was appointed Interim Director of Athletics for GCSU, Bruce Harshbarger Vice President for Student Affairs has announced.

“Jimmy Wilson brings to this role outstanding experience as both an athletic administrator and a coach,” said Harshbarger. “In addition, he’s a great ambassador for our athletic program and a respected colleague to many on campus. We are very fortunate to have Jimmy available to lead our athletic department.”

Wilson has served as golf coach for the Bobcats since 1997, reaching the NCAA tournament each of the past 10 years and the National Championship Round of the NCAA Division II Tournament six times in that tenure. He was named Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Coach of the Year in 2000, after the Bobcats won the league title.

He added the title of Assistant Athletic Director in April 2007, ending his role as Director of Golf at Little Fishing Creek Golf Course, where he served for 20 years. Wilson graduated from GCSU in 1986 with a degree in municipal recreation.

“I consider it an honor to be given this responsibility,” said Wilson. “To help this department in such a crucial transition period will be very special for me.”

The athletic director position opens with the retirement of Stan Aldridge, effective March 31. Aldridge served the Georgia College athletic department in some capacity for the past 32 years, taking over athletic director duties in January 1991.

A national search for the athletic director opening will begin in the spring, with an expected summer hiring date.
