Commissioners' Cup 2002-03
North
Florida Wins Fourth Straight Peach Belt Commissioner’s
Cup
SAVANNAH, GA. -- Peach Belt Conference commissioner
Marvin Vanover presented the University of North Florida athletic
department with their fourth consecutive PBC Commissioner’s
Cup at the conference’s annual meetings in Savannah, Ga. The
Commissioner’s Cup is presented annually to the best overall
athletic program who competes in the conference’s 12
championship sports.
UNF won four PBC championships this year with
crowns in volleyball and softball and were co-champions in baseball
and men’s tennis. The Ospreys were second in men’s and
women’s cross country, men’s soccer and women’s
soccer. North Florida is the second school in Peach Belt history to
win four straight Commissioner’s Cups, USC Spartanburg won
the first four awards in conference history from 1992-95.
Kennesaw State was second in the standings for the
third straight year after winning PBC titles in men’s and
women’s cross country and women’s soccer and a
second-place finish in men’s basketball. Armstrong Atlantic
State was in third place after co-championships in women’s
basketball and baseball and a second-place finish in women’s
tennis.
The PBC Commissioner’s Cup is determined
using a ratings system. Each school’s finish in the sports it
competes in is divided by the number of points available to that
school to determine the rating.

*Numbers in parentheses indicate maximum number of points that
can be awarded for each sport. Ratings are determined by taking the
maximum number of points available to each school, depending on how
many sports each has, and dividing by the number of points won,
based on conference finish through the regular season.
