The PBCs 20 in 20 has reached the top five! Coming at #5 we look, for the second straight game, at a classic Columbus State/Francis Marion matchup. On March 11, 2000, the two teams met in the NCAA South Atlantic Regional Championship where Columbus State went into overtime to hold off Francis Marion 101-99 and advance to their first NCAA Elite Eight.

Most of the games on our countdown have been in NCAA Regional or PBC Tournaments, but one of the great things about sports is that on any given night, you can see something magical. Such is the case on Feb. 10, 2008, when Francis Marion traveled to Columbus State, a game that was one among many on the schedule, and played a record-setting classic as CSU beat FMU 113-108 (2ot), the highest-scoring game in PBC history.

Such is the case with womens tennis. While Armstrong Atlantic State was marching towards another national championship in 2009, Francis Marion and Columbus State played a classic in the NCAA Regional that is the 7th greatest game in PBC history.
April 9, 2010 Peach Belt 20 in 20 Game #8: NCAA Mens Soccer Regional: Francis Marion vs. Clayton State, Nov. 11, 2000
For 10 years, the 2000 NCAA mens soccer regional final has come to define what happens when two teams playing at their peak leave everything on the field. Through four overtimes, 150 minutes of play, and a penalty-kick shootout, Francis Marion and Clayton State defined greatness in not only the Peach Belt Conference, but in collegiate sports.
March 12, 2010 Peach Belt 20 in 20 - Game #12: PBC Men's Basketball Tournament Championship: Clayton St. vs. USC Aiken, March 9, 2008
It took three overtimes, but Clayton State won their first tournament championship as they beat USC Aiken in the 2008 PBC championship game, the only mens final in PBC history decided in extra frames and the biggest upset in the history of the championship game. Clayton State became the lowest-seeded team ever to win the PBC Tournament and defeated the #1, #2 and #3 seeds to do so.
February 19, 2010 Peach Belt 20 in 20 - Game #14: Men's Soccer - Lander vs. USC Upstate, Nov. 2, 1991
The very first Peach Belt Conference mens soccer tournament championship game would prove to be one of the most memorable as Lander defeated USC Spartanburg (now USC Upstate) 6-5 in penalty kicks at the inaugural 1991 championship.
February 12, 2010 Peach Belt 20 in 20: Game #15 PBC Mens Basketball Tournament Championship: Augusta State vs. USC Aiken, March 8, 2009
It can be difficult to put things in perspective when they are less than a year old, but even from so short a distance through time, the 2008-09 mens basketball season stands out as the most competitive and exciting the Peach Belt has ever seen. All of that came to a head in the 2009 PBC Tournament where two old rivals, both ranked in the top 25, met in front of the largest crowd to ever watch a PBC championship game.
February 5, 2010 Peach Belt 20 in 20 - Game #16 - Women's Soccer: Columbus St. vs. Armstrong Atlantic St., Oct. 29, 2006
Columbus State and Armstrong Atlantic State began their womens soccer programs a year apart and in short order rocketed to the top of the PBC standings. When they met in the 2006 PBC Tournament championship game, each seeking their first title, they cemented themselves in the conference annals with the first and, to date, only womens soccer final to be decided in a penalty kick shootout.
January 29, 2010 Peach Belt 20 in 20 - Game #17 - Men's Cross Country: 2000 PBC Championships
It seemed throughout the 2000 mens cross country season that the entire year was leading up to one point: Kennesaw State vs. North Florida. When the two teams finally squared off on the campus of Columbus State University on Oct. 21, 2000, the match surpassed the hype as North Florida beat Kennesaw State 39-41 in the closest mens championship ever run, before or since.
