Columbus State Jumps to Top of Commissioner’s Cup Standings

Following successful men’s and women’s basketball seasons, the Columbus State Cougars have jumped up to the top of the PBC standings following the winter sports period.  Augusta State is second in the standings with Clayton State in third and UNC Pembroke fourth.

The Cougars’ men’s basketball team finished in a tie for third overall in the PBC while the women’s team was tied for fourth.  That, combined with their strong fall season which saw all of their teams finish in the top half of the conference or higher, gave the Cougars 41 of a possible 56 points for a .732 percentage.

For basketball, all  teams were ranked from first to last according to the number of losses.  This was done due to the different number of games played in the two divisions.  Teams with the same number of losses were therefore tied and split the total number of points.   First place for basketball was worth 13 points – for the 13 teams that play the sport – while second was worth 12 and so on.

The total number of points earned by an institution is divided into the total number available to them, based on what sports they play.

Columbus State is the defending Commissioner’s Cup champion.  The Cup was their fourth since 2006.
