Flagler Claims Men's and Women's Basketball Team Sportsmanship Awards
The Flagler men’s and women’s basketball teams were named the recipients of the 2011-12 PBC Team Sportsmanship Awards, announced the league office on Thursday. The Peach Belt Conference presents one such award for each of its 13 championship sports, the award is voted on by other teams in that sport.
This is the second Team Sportsmanship Award for the school this season after the men’s cross country team was honored last fall. The award is the third straight for the Flagler women’s basketball team, who have won it every year since joining the PBC. The Saints men’s basketball team wins for the second time in the last three years. Flagler was also the recipient of the 2010-11 PBC Institution of the Year Sportsmanship Award.
The program presents an award following each championship season
to the team in that sport that best exemplifies the spirit of
sportsmanship and generally conducts themselves with a high degree
of integrity, character and class. The team award is selected by
other teams who compete in that sport. Points are awarded based on
how each team finished in the voting and in June, the institution
with the highest totals will receive the ‘PBC Institution of
the Year Sportsmanship Award.’
The league’s Senior Woman Administrators will oversee the
program. You can see the complete list of 2011-12 honorees here.
