PBC's Gerlinger Writes 'Best National Event Coverage' Story in Stabley Contest
Peach Belt Conference Assistant Commissioner for Communications
Ken Gerlinger recently received the 'Best National Event Coverage'
award as part of the Fred S. Stabley Writing Contest as sponsored
by the College Sports Information Directors of America
(CoSIDA).
Gerlinger, who recently completed his ninth year at the conference
office, received the award for a piece titled 'If You Stage It,
They Will Come,' a feature on the 2008 PBC Men's and Women's Soccer
Championships, the first PBC tournament to be directly hosted by
the conference office at a neutral site. The article ran in the
NCAA News and can be seen here.
"It is a tremendous honor," said Gerlinger, who despises quoting himself. "But the story was easy to write following such a great event. Thanks to all the judges and everyone at CoSIDA for the recognition."
The CoSIDA Fred S. Stabley Sr. Writing Contest is open to all members of CoSIDA and is the only contest sponsored by CoSIDA that does not discriminate because of budget, athletic competition level or size of staff. All entries are considered to be on a level playing field. The Contest is comprised of five categories (athlete feature, general feature, coach/administrator profile, event coverage and historical feature).
The 2008-09 contest drew 316 total entries. More than a third (115) were athlete profiles. Entries were first judged at the district level, with district winners advancing to a national committee.
