Peach Belt Conference commissioner David Brunk and Columbia County, Ga., Board of Commissioners chairman Ron Cross announced that Evans, Ga., and Blanchard Woods Park have been selected as the host site of the 2012 and 2013 NCAA Division II men’s and women’s soccer National Championships.

PBC 20 in 20 rolls on with game #6! Most of the games on our countdown have been in NCAA Regional or PBC Tournaments, but one of the great things about sports is that on any given night, you can see something magical. Such is the case on Feb. 10, 2008, when Francis Marion traveled to Columbus State, a game that was one among many on the schedule, and played a record-setting classic as CSU beat FMU 113-108 (2ot), the highest-scoring game in PBC history.

In one of the greatest PBC Tournament games ever played (in the quarterfinals, no less), Armstrong Atlantic State knocked off top-seeded and fifth-ranked Francis Marion 72-69 on a buzzer-beating three-pointer by Jason Sanders. It took three overtimes, but Clayton State won their first tournament championship as they beat USC Aiken in the 2008 PBC championship game, the only men’s final in PBC history decided in extra frames and the biggest upset in the history of the championship game. Clayton State became the lowest-seeded team ever to win the PBC Tournament and defeated the #1, #2 and #3 seeds to do so.

When they met in the 2006 PBC Tournament championship game, each seeking their first title, they cemented themselves in the conference annals with the first and, to date, only women’s soccer final to be decided in a penalty kick shootout.

It seemed throughout the 2000 men’s cross country season that the entire year was leading up to one point: Kennesaw State vs. North Florida. When the two teams finally squared off on the campus of Columbus State University on Oct. 21, 2000, the match surpassed the hype as North Florida beat Kennesaw State 39-41 in the closest men’s championship ever run, before or since.

Columbus State Men Finish 19th at Cross Country National Championships; Women 24th
Columbus State's Meshack Koyiaki capped off an outstanding season by finishing ninth at the NCAA Division II Cross-Country Championships on Saturday on the campus of the University of Southern Indiana. The CSU women, on the heels of their first-ever region championship, finished 24th in the women's race on Saturday. Individually, UNCP's Pardon Ndhlovu was named an All-American with his 30th place finish.
