ASU Names Cooper Head Baseball Coach
Former Augusta State standout and current assistant coach Chris Cooper has been promoted to head baseball coach, according to an announcement Friday afternoon from ASU Director of Athletics Clint Bryant. Cooper steps in for Skip Fite, who resigned the position to become the head coach at West Georgia.

Dr. Charles Jenkins, former provost and vice chancellor for Academic Affairs, was named interim chancellor of The University of North Carolina at Pembroke effective July 1. Jenkins replaces Dr. Allen Meadors, who resigned the position earlier in the month.

Columbus State played its way to within three shots of the lead on two occasions Friday at the Division II Golf Championship, but faltered on the final five holes and had to settle for a third place finish. GCSU shaved a stroke off of their third-round total and finished fifth in the 20-team field.

USC Aiken #1, Augusta State #5 in Sporting News Preseason Men's Basketball Poll
Following one of the most wildly successful seasons in PBC men’s basketball history, two conference schools received top-five rankings from the Sporting News. USC Aiken is the #1 team in the nation according to the magazine’s annual College Yearbook, which was released this week. Augusta State is ranked fifth in the nation after reaching the NCAA National Championship game last spring.

USC Aiken Wins Aflac/Cougar Invite; AASU 5th in Division I Field in Savannah
USC Aiken fired a team tournament low 7-under 277 on Tuesday to win by three shots over Florida Southern in the 17-team 2008 Aflac/Cougar Invitational held at the Country Club of Columbus. Meanwhile, Armstrong Atlantic State finished fifth of 13 teams at the Mizuno Savannah Intercollegiate.
